Writing a business plan is one of the first steps to building a successful business. The outline is the skeleton of the business plan. Although it may not be the last section to be written, it serves as the foundation for future content. A well-written business plan will help ensure your success.
Investors will prefer companies like yours that demonstrate they have a plan to succeed. This is why most business plans are written in chronological order - by month, quarter, or year. You can also outline a particular month or even a particular quarter within your business plan outline as long as the focus of the month or quarter is on the overall direction of the business. There are several different formats of business plans that can be used for investors to read and consider.
One great way to keep your business plan concise and to the point is to use a notepad or notebook, along with a legal pad or notebook for more detailed explanations. The notepad or notebook should be used for notes and reminders. Each topic of your new businesses outline can be written out using bullet points or numbered lists. This will enable you to have a concise, clear statement of what needs to be accomplished for your new business. By using numbers and bullets, you will be able to tell at a glance how many pages of your new plan you will need to write.
D. A company overview. The company overview offers a clear picture of what the company is doing and identifies key personnel, operational responsibilities and other organizational elements. It is also useful in communicating to the senior management of the plan's objectives, strengths, goals and methods of approach.
Once you have your outline written, the next step is to create your executive summary. This is the section that will briefly describe your company, your unique selling proposition (or USP), and your unique history and development. For your executive summary, you may consider taking a cue from the USP, or a short phrase or two from your pizza shop's marketing strategy or from your pizzeria's menu.
The fourth critical component of effective business planning is identifying future requirements. In order to project future needs, it is necessary to consider how those needs will be identified, developed and maintained over time. A good business plan will provide a list of organizational functions and activities, a description of each function and a schedule for each function. A detailed description of future requirements should include objectives and time periods for each requirement, an assessment of costs and expected benefits and a description of transitional expenses. The balance sheet should be prepared based on the assumption that operating revenue will cover capital investments, debt and interest costs and net worth.
