A business plan template contains just one of the three essential sections - your business objective and strategy. Most templates provide a short, simple description of why you created the plan in the first place. They may skip this section altogether. Some investors want to see, in addition to the objectives, their financial projections for the next five, ten, or twenty years. Other investors want detailed financial projections for more than one year.
Marketing Strategies Many businesses have goals and targets. These goals can vary widely between businesses. They should be written clearly and carefully described in a section that includes marketing strategies. The strategies can be used to achieve the goals and can even be re-stated periodically as the business changes or grows. A marketing strategy section should be included with every business plan.
Market Research and Analysis The market research section of the executive summary provide a detailed description of the Company to market and competitive analysis. This section will focus on two components: first, the competition. Second, the target market. In order to understand competitors, the business plan outline needs to include competitor analysis in detail.
Investors also want detailed cash flow projections for at least five years ahead. They want to know the general direction of the company's cash flow, not just a monthly increase or decrease in funds over the past year or two. If you are presenting your Business Plan to potential investors, make sure they are given realistic figures that will be easily comparable from year to year. For example, if you expect operating profit margins of 35 cents per share in the first year, then you should provide an estimated growth rate of between nine and twelve percent a year. This will illustrate to any investor that you have a plan to make money in the future and have growth expectations along with that future success.
A good executive summary will highlight both the positive and negative side of your marketing strategy, as well as your financial planning process. It should also highlight the strengths of your business plans and your competitors. This section should also highlight the potential problems that you could encounter along the way.
D. A company overview. The company overview offers a clear picture of what the company is doing and identifies key personnel, operational responsibilities and other organizational elements. It is also useful in communicating to the senior management of the plan's objectives, strengths, goals and methods of approach.
