Most business plans will contain, at a minimum, a statement of financial risk, identifying specific types of risks to the company's long-term viability, as well as a description of the company's business model. All of this information will help prospective investors to make an informed decision on whether or not they should invest in your company. Long-term investors tend to be sophisticated and focused on the company's ability to generate strong profits and manage its short-term debts, as well as the ability to remain financially viable while doing so. Because these long-term investors are interested in not only your overall success, but the longevity of your company's structure as well, they will have additional questions for you when preparing your formal business plan.
What exactly is a Business Plan Template? A business plan template is essentially a single comprehensive document that outlines your business goals, plans, strategies, tactics, and plans in plain, laymen's language. It must contain three fundamental sections: I) your business objective; ii) a strategy to achieve your business objective; iii) and a plan to implement the strategies to achieve your business objective. In other words, it is like a road map to guide you from point A to point B.
The third step in the development of a business plan is arguably the most important step, and that is, raising the capital to execute the business plan. Most business plan templates provide an outline of the funding sources necessary to execute the business plan, but it is the actual raising of capital that makes the difference. While it may seem like a simple matter, the raising of capital can be difficult and highly competitive, and it should be a highly controlled process, with predetermined steps of exactly how and when a financing transaction is to be executed. A well written business plan provides a clear roadmap of exactly how this process should be followed, including exact dates, amounts, and a detailed sales and cash flow projection for each quarter of the projected period of time, giving all participants a crystal clear picture of what their activities will look like over the next year or more.
As you continue to write and develop your business plan, you will want to add details and detail as you identify more aspects of your business. Write down any financials, sales forecasts, and projections based on the information you gather. While this plan represents a first draft, as you flesh it out it will become an ever-evolving document that describes your business in its true light-a light that is not too pessimistic, but one that is realistic enough to help you reach your startup goals.
F. A market analysis. The market analysis is another key component that most investors require before they become involved. The market analysis should identify potential opportunities and threats in the small business sector. It is intended to provide an investor with a "road map" for evaluating the prospective value of the stock, as well as identifying companies that may have a larger market potential than the small business, but that may not necessarily be positioned to exploit those opportunities.
B. A description of the proposed management team. The executive summary is fine, but the real power of the business plan comes from the information provided by the other sections. If the entrepreneurs include too few members of the management team in their proposed management team, they may risk overlooking key players or not meeting their obligations to these key individuals.
