A business plan is basically a formal written document that includes the strategies for achieving those plans, the intended methods for attaining them, and the approximate time-frame for their accomplishment. While it may sound like just an interesting to-do list, a detailed business plan can provide great benefits to any company. A business plan gives clarity, predictability, and a clear path for success. It also allows for proper organization of resources and the determination of short-term and long-term goals.
Strategy The strategy section is an important part of the overall business plan. The strategy is written in such a way that it informs and convinces the reader that the business is worth going after. This section is extremely important and is often the last section a business author will write. The business plan may be well written but if there is no strategy it lacks a crucial element that can make the difference between success and failure. Writing a solid business plan requires planning and thinking carefully about what strategy to pursue.
Your business plan outline needs to include a balance sheet, too. The balance sheet will show the true or actual value of your assets and liabilities. As you develop your strategy, it will be important to maintain an accurate balance sheet so that your management team know what financing sources are available to make good investments. In addition to the balance sheet, you may want to include a statement on your cash flow. You can describe potential funding sources and how they will impact your bottom line. A cash flow statement is particularly useful for investors because it shows their exact view of the company's ability to generate cash within the allocated funding amount.
Investors also want detailed cash flow projections for at least five years ahead. They want to know the general direction of the company's cash flow, not just a monthly increase or decrease in funds over the past year or two. If you are presenting your Business Plan to potential investors, make sure they are given realistic figures that will be easily comparable from year to year. For example, if you expect operating profit margins of 35 cents per share in the first year, then you should provide an estimated growth rate of between nine and twelve percent a year. This will illustrate to any investor that you have a plan to make money in the future and have growth expectations along with that future success.
Your business plan outline will include the following three sections: 1. Executive Summary. Your executive summary will be the initial part of the plan and is often the longest section. It consists of the most detailed information about your company and why you intend to secure funding for your ecommerce business.
In order to prepare a complete, balanced business plan, you need to include a brief executive summary. Your executive summary will inform the reader of the purpose of your business plan and any goals that you may have for it. The summary should be no more than two pages. If you include more information in this section than in the rest, your plan will not be balanced. For example, if you list product features as well as the costs of manufacturing them, the plan will become very long and will lack substance.
