As previously stated, you should keep your outline very simple. The most common mistake people make when structuring an outline is putting out too much information or too much detail. However, outlining a business plan effectively requires only a few sections to be filled out. You should split your outline up into separate topics such as how you will get customers, how you will maintain your inventory, how you will manage your daily operations, how you will advertise your business, how you will market your pizzeria, how you will attract customers, how you will retain your employees, and how you will run your business legally. If you only put out what you need to know in each topic, then your business plans will prove to be too generic.
In order to prepare a complete, balanced business plan, you need to include a brief executive summary. Your executive summary will inform the reader of the purpose of your business plan and any goals that you may have for it. The summary should be no more than two pages. If you include more information in this section than in the rest, your plan will not be balanced. For example, if you list product features as well as the costs of manufacturing them, the plan will become very long and will lack substance.
Lastly, the last section of a Startup Business Plan Template is designed to highlight your management team. In particular, it focuses on the key person in your management team. The person should be able to communicate the vision of the company to investors and prove that they are capable of leading the management team and the business model successfully. If they demonstrate to investors that they have the experience and knowledge necessary to bring the company to profitability, they will likely be selected as a management team. Investors also want to know that the selected management team will work together and stay true to the founding principles and vision of the company.
Strategy For competitive reasons, it is important to include a competitive evaluation of the business. It is possible that competitors have lower costs or other advantages than the business. The strategic review should identify how the business can compete with these advantages and build a stronger position. This area should also consider the importance of market share and how the target market will be affected by the competitive change.
Most business plans will contain, at a minimum, a statement of financial risk, identifying specific types of risks to the company's long-term viability, as well as a description of the company's business model. All of this information will help prospective investors to make an informed decision on whether or not they should invest in your company. Long-term investors tend to be sophisticated and focused on the company's ability to generate strong profits and manage its short-term debts, as well as the ability to remain financially viable while doing so. Because these long-term investors are interested in not only your overall success, but the longevity of your company's structure as well, they will have additional questions for you when preparing your formal business plan.
Once you have your outline written, the next step is to create your executive summary. This is the section that will briefly describe your company, your unique selling proposition (or USP), and your unique history and development. For your executive summary, you may consider taking a cue from the USP, or a short phrase or two from your pizza shop's marketing strategy or from your pizzeria's menu.
